Her main profession is ethnologist, her speciality – Baltics (Latvia in particular). She knows Latvian perfectly, and comes to Latvia every year to gather material for her scientific works, to conduct researches etc. In 2002 she got the Great Folklore Award of Latvia for her book about Latvian ornaments published in Moscow. Besides, she has written lots of articles on India and Indian culture; she travelled a lot all around India and has been even in such areas where no any person from the West had ever been before. Above all, she’s also a Kathak dancer, studied in Moscow under the guidance of Harish Gangani, Ashvani Nigam, Santosh Vyas as well as in India in Kathak Kendra under the guidance of Shri Rajendra Gangani. She represents Jaipur gharana of Kathak. Svetlana is not only a performer, but also a gifted teacher, very strong in dance theory that is very important for a professional dancer. It became a tradition to give a performance in Riga, Ave Sol concert hall, every time when she’s in Latvia. She also performs in Moscow and gives lectures-demonstrations in Oriental museum together with Yekaterina Seliverstova (Jaipur gharana). All the girls of Lila consider themselves very lucky to have this unique person as a teacher!
